Police: Manchester man critical after three

Wetherell Street in Manchester is closed because of a serious crash, police said

Wetherell Street in Manchester is closed because of a serious crash, police said late Tuesday morning.

MANCHESTER — A local man driving a three-wheeled vehicle was seriously injured when the vehicle left the roadway Tuesday morning, according to police.

The crash happened on Wetherell Street, near Cougar Drive, according to Manchester Lt. Ryan Shea. He likened the involved vehicle to a Polaris Slingshot, a popular three-wheeled motorcycle.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Wetherell Street around 10:38 a.m. Tuesday when it collided with a telephone pole in the 300 block, Sgt. Michael Williams of the Manchester Police Department's Traffic Unit said.

Police said in an alert late Tuesday morning that the roadway was closed. The street runs parallel to Interstate 384 to the north and is near Manchester Community College.

Shea confirmed the roadway remained closed as of around 4:30 p.m. due to work on the involved pole.

The crash left the driver, identified as a 36-year-old man, with serious injuries. He was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Metro Traffic Services, a regional team of crash investigators, has been called and is expected to be on the scene for what police said would be an extended period of time.

Drivers are asked to use an alternate route.

Witnesses or anyone with information regarding the crash can contact Ofc. Konrad Rozwadowski at 860-533-8620.
